| Vision
In the context
of a sharp and growing worldwide inequality, we believe that fundraising
is a fundamental part of building social movements. The radical
redistribution of wealth is required to create social justice, and
an analysis of money, wealth, race, power and social change is fundamental
to social justice fundraising. When done effectively by low income,
social justice groups, especially in communities of color, fundraising
is a vital part of movements for progressive change. We work for
a democratic world without racism, misogyny, homophobia and class
stratification. We offer our services through this lens. We hold
ourselves accountable to progressive movements in oppressed communities.
Organizational
Values: Gift and Contract Acceptance Policy
GIFT
seeks to partner with funders and organizations who are genuinely
committed to the struggle for social justice. Toward this end, GIFT
will not accept funds, nor contract work, with sources whose intent
it is to promote activities or issues that are in conflict with
social justice principles, nor from sources whose work is directly
contrary to social justice principles.
Over the long
term, GIFT will work toward independence from institutional sources
of funding, diversifying our fundraising program, and eventually
build a funding base that allows for self-determination and autonomy.
We will continue to strengthen our individual donor program with
the hopes of one-day raising the majority of our funds from people
and groups of color. As GIFT works toward this goal, we will follow
the following guidelines:
I. MISSION
DRIVEN FUNDRAISING
GIFT will pursue funding that corresponds with the mission and programs
of the organization, and not retreat from our goals or develop new
programs solely for the purpose of funding. We will be mission-driven,
not money-driven!
II.
EXPAND THE PIE
GIFT will not hinder or block ally organizations from acquiring
the same specific funds. Furthermore, GIFT will work to support
funding for activities beyond GIFT, and will share resources for
collective efforts.
III.
RESPECT CAMPAIGNS
GIFT will not accept funding from any organization that is the current
target of an active boycott or other campaign activity.
IV.
JUST & RESPONSIBLE SOURCES
GIFT will seek funding from organizations and individuals who recognize
the need for social justice work and programs that promote the well-being
and advancement of people and communities of color.
V. NO
STRINGS ATTACHED
GIFT will only accept funds that support our organizational priorities,
there will be no quid pro quo. |
